Dr. George Shaw is an active educator, composer, performer and music industry consultant in the Long Beach/Los Angeles, California area. Dr. Shaw plays trumpet, bass and keyboards. He is also an independent record producer and studio owner who, in addition to recording with other musicians, records and produces his own material. His current work can be heard on Wilton Felder's solo album, "Let's Spend Some Time." Dr. Shaw currently performs with his own group, Jetstream, and is the trumpet soloist with the Al Williams Jazz Society.
Dr. Shaw's performance experience includes Wilton Felder, Larry Graham, Ronnie Laws, Frank Potenza, Dizzy Gillespie, David Sanborn, Tom Scott, Eddie Harris, Patrice Rushen and Marvin Gaye to name a few.
Dr. Shaw has been teaching at Long Beach City College since 1978 where he has developed the Commercial Music Program which has fostered many young local talents.
He holds a Ph.D in Music Education from The University of Oklahoma. In researching his dissertation, “RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN EXPERIENTIAL FACTORS AND PERCEPTS OF SELECTED PROFESSIONAL MUSICIANS IN THE UNITED STATES WHO ARE ADEPT AT JAZZ IMPROVISATION,” he traveled around the United States, met, "hung out with" and interviewed some of the worlds leading jazz personalities. In addition to his day to day musical endeavors, Dr. Shaw serves as a consultant to several music industry manufacturers including Glyph Technologies and Young Chang/Kurzweil Corporation.
